"The Database Integrity Package"

  • allows the developer to compete more successfully with Oracle-based applications
  • standardized file maintenance provides a common user interface with standard delete, update, and exit functions, as well as standard help notes
  • fields may be added to the maintenance on the average of 5 minutes per field, as opposed to the usual 1 to 2 hours necessary when expanding a file.
  • the database dictionary is all that needs to exist to run the UPD File Maintenance program, without special items. UPD is designed to maintain both large and small Master Files, such as Customer, Vendor, Product, Inventory, as well as small and large reference tables. Powerful additions may be made to such dictionaries to enhance their usefulness in data entry, however. The use of these dictionaries helps to ensure data integrity because the dictionaries may only be updated by authorized users, usually the administrator(s). UPD and ICV validations include numeric, date, file/record existence, Basic subroutine validation, pattern matching, length, and valid answer lists. SET allows single-valued and multivalued attributes of items to be updated using SELECT lists (or all). LOADIT provides a means of entering single-valued data quickly using SELECT lists. SET and LOADIT also use ICV and OCV to preserve data integrity. The E editor also enforces database integrity using ICV and OCV when editing data files, even when downloading and uploading through MS Office applications, though text files can be edited in any way. OCV ensures that output occurs in a standard and consistent format.
  • the package includes UPD, UPDWINDOW, LOAD, LOADIT, SET, ICV, OCV, BUILDDICT, E editor, and BQL.
  • files may contain up to 750 attributes for UPD, and as many values and subvalues as necessary
  • the client may build simple or very complex files using this UPD file manager
  • associated (parallel) multivalued sets launch into the UPDWINDOW which not only supports update but acts as a "grid" where the fields may be sorted by any of the columns simply by clicking the mouse on the appropriate column header. The sort option can be deactivated for any particular file if such sorting would conflict with other indexing schemes, for instance. The UPDWINDOW will support a virtually unlimited number of rows and columns.
  • through UPD, UPDWINDOW, and LOAD, users can 'drive' down through files associated with attributes
  • searches may be performed
  • file maintenance may be invoked from a preselected list at TCL or in the Report Writer (Stacker), easing list compilation difficulties.
  • "single-item" dictionaries, used to promote speedy, efficient program launch, and containing only A-descriptors, can be built using the BUILDDICT command and are also automatically maintained when one uses UPD itself to maintain dictionaries.
  • LOAD command performs maintenance and running of user-defined sets of dictionary items for UPD, so that subsets of the records can be maintained by appropriate users w/o the need to access the entire records.
  • We now also have the sophisticated BQL full-function Screen Generator which uses ICV and OCV for data integrity validation, also. This allows for positioning fields on multiple screens and updating multiple data items concurrently. It is completely parameter-driven and can allow those not skilled in programming to develop fairly complex screens. BQL is more geared towards transaction processing than UPD and should be used for that purpose. BQL is well-documented and has been thoroughly implemented in many applications. The current version is available for Beta test.
  • SLP, GLP, DLP, ELP, CLP provide similar functionality to SAVE-LIST, GET-LIST, DELETE-LIST, EDIT-LIST, COPY-LIST, respectively, except that they append the port# to each item name, for added security and data integrity in multi-user environments.
  • SLA, GLA, DLA, ELA, CLA provide similar functionality to SAVE-LIST, GET-LIST, DELETE-LIST, EDIT-LIST, COPY-LIST, respectively, except that they append the BB4GL user name to each item name, for added security and data integrity in multi-user environments.
  • Input macros can be recorded and replayed. These are excellent both as data entry time savers and as testing scripts to help assure data integrity. When used with AccuTerm, AccuTerm scripts can be used as well for similar purposes.
